The Uttar Pradesh government has released a provisional list of reserved seats for the upcoming urban elections, including the mayors of 17 municipal corporations and chairpersons of municipal councils and nagar panchayats.

The government has requested objections to the draft within seven days.

The announcement was made by Urban Development Minister AK Sharma.

The Uttar Pradesh state cabinet has approved an ordinance for amending the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act and the Nagar Palika Act, and sent it to Governor Anandiben Patel for assent.

A draft notification has been issued for the reserved seats for mayors of municipal corporations and chairpersons of municipal councils and nagar panchayats for the upcoming urban elections, with some seats reserved for women, OBCs, and SCs.

The Supreme Court has given the go-ahead for holding urban local body polls in the state, with an OBC quota, in response to a report by the Uttar Pradesh Backward Classes Commission.
